DVI
Digital Visual Interface is a visual display interface for digital screens and devices developed by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG). Consisting of two separate channels with up to three wires, it is used to connect a video source such as a video controller to a device like a computer monitor.
DVI-D has one data bit in contrast to DVI-A’s two because it only sends and receives on synchronised channels, meaning there is no chance of conflicting signals. As a result, less bandwidth is used - speeds as high as 4.95 Gbit/s are possible when using digital signals with an active adaptor or cable for the connection. To support analogue input, a passive adaptor must be purchased and attached at both ends of the cable.
DVI connectors come in three types. DVI-A is the analogue connector, with an option to switch down to being a single-link or dual-link connector. Similarly, DVI-D is the digital version of the adaptor; it can be a single-link adaptor or a dual-linked one. Lastly, DVI-I combines analogue and digital wiring into one cable; this type has two data rates which allows you more options for higher quality signals.
We offer a wide variety of DVI adaptors and cables to meet your needs. Choose from 17-pin DVI-A, 19 pins for single-link DVI-D, 25 pins for our new dual-link adaptor or 23 pins if you are looking for the older style connector. The newest 29 pin connectors have HDMI compatibility built-in as well as backwards capability with other formats such as VGA and SVGA.
